Mataranka

On the way to Mataranka we free camped at Newcastle Waters. There’s a story here, in the 18 hundreds a thousand head of cattle was driven there, there was a bad drought in QLD, the cattle were driven to Newcastle Waters of coarse for water, but only 5 survived.  There is a lot more to the story but I can’t remember.
Arrived Mataranka 3-7-12, stayed at a park at Bitter Springs. The crystal clear hot springs are only a walk from the park, temperature of about 32 degrees, which Karen liked.  Next day we went to where they shot We Of The Never Never (Mataranka Homestead), the house and outside kitchen (Doctor Cheons Kitchen) was still there. near the homestead was another springs called Rainbow springs, the water welling from the ground is crystal clear if it was not for the movement of water you would think there was nothing there.
Cutta Cutta caves was the next call, only a small cave not as good as The Caves near Rocky.
Watched the Barra been fed in town.
